The beauty of Perfection in Imperfection : Wabi Sabi
I have always been a fan of Japanese culture, In Japan, broken objects are often repaired with gold to embrace the flaws and cracks of the object which makes it more beautiful afterward, and here we will talk about one such practice: Wabi Sabi. Wabi-sabi is an elegant philosophy that denotes a more connected way of living—a lifestyle, where we are deeply connected to nature, and thus, better connected to our truest inner selves. For example, if you paint a wall white perfectly even a single dent or dust can vanish its so-called perfection and degrades its value but if that particular thing is not so perfect for you but is comfortable in itself then no matter what obligations and standard implied on it can disturb its peace.
Wabi-sabi is a concept that motions us to constantly search for beauty in imperfection and accept the more natural cycle of life. It reminds us that all things including us and life itself, are impermanent, incomplete, and imperfect. Perfection, then, is impossible and impermanence is the only way.
Taken individually;
- Wabi: is about recognizing beauty in simplicity, it invites us to open our hearts and detach ourselves from the vanity of materialism and perfectionism defined by society so we can accept the spiritual reality of life.
- Sabi: on the other hand means understanding the passage of time, the way things grow, go, decay, die, and age, here we learn how time and life happen and how beautiful it is. It suggests how real and natural life is and implies looking for beauty even if it seems broken at first.
- Through acceptance, you find freedom.
- All things in life, including you, are in an imperfect state of life, so strive not for perfection, but for excellence instead.
- Appreciate the beauty of all things, especially the great beauty that hides beneath the surface of what is broken.
- Slow and simple, is the only way to feel alive, happy, and content.
- To feel satisfied and complete on exactly where you are.

Love yourself and touch someone with your love rather than focus on the thorns of life, count your blessings.
